Message from the Principal

Dear Bobcat Family,

At Brookdale, we are honored to offer an excellent educational experience for all children! This experience is based on respect for all and the belief that all children can and will succeed! Brookdale students work hard every day to meet expectations for academics and behavior. As parents, you can support your students in this work by ensuring they are at school on time every day, and helping with homework and participating in Brookdale family events. The Brookdale staff strives to provide evidence-based best practices when instructing students. It is an honor to be working with such an amazing team of students, parents, and staff!

The 2016-2017 school year was another amazing year for Brookdale. Due to the hard work of our students and staff, Brookdale was awarded the 2016 Award for Academic Achievement from OSPI in the following area: Math Growth. Throughout the year, students were involved in engaging programs designed to maximize their potential. Students received rigorous instruction in reading, math, science, and social studies – all designed to ensure they will continue to be successful beyond elementary school.

This past year, Brookdale 2nd - 5 th graders had the opportunity to take part in the AMP afterschool music program. AMP (Artist Mentoring Project) is a program developed by a PLU student to give students the opportunity to participate in music education, choir, and the Bucket Brigade – a drum ensemble using 5 gallon buckets. Students involved in the program performed in two evening events at Brookdale. AMP continues to grow at Brookdale. Students also had the opportunity to attend a variety of after-school activities ranging from art, videography, Legos, and gardening. In the spring of 2017, Brookdale 3rd, 4th, & 5th graders took the SBA (Smarter Balanced Assessment) in the areas of ELA (English/Language Arts) and math. Fifth graders also took the science portion of the MSP.

As part of our learning community, Brookdale families participated in several parent involvement activities such as: Donuts with Dad, Muffins with Mom, concerts, programs and many family nights. Our PTA continues to support Brookdale with field trip money, movie nights, and other fun school projects. It is our hope that every parent and/or guardian will join our wonderful PTA!

Thank you for being a part of such a wonderful school! We are eager for the year ahead and all that it will bring to our students!
