Message from the Principal

Welcome Back!I hope you have had a wonderful summer and have had an opportunity to rest, relaxed, & recharged!  I am looking forward to starting a new school year with you!  I am delighted that you are a part of the Brookdale learning community!  I welcome and value your positive energy & dedication to your students.  I look forward to working with you and your children this year!

I am super EXCITED to introduce you to our new assistant principal, Kari Ferguson!!!  Mrs. Ferguson comes to us from Tacoma, with a tremendous amount of experience.  I can't wait to see what amazing things she has in store for us!  Please be sure to introduce yourself to her at Back to School night - if not before!

New Staff!Along with welcoming Mrs. Ferguson, I'd also like to introduce our new staff.  We are excited to have Mrs. Autumn Warren join our 5th grade team and Mrs. Teresa Beagley will be joining the 4th grade team!  I'd also like to welcome Karissa Thomas, school psychologist and Lindsay Copus, speech & language pathologist.

There are a number of staff who have changed positions for the 2019-20 school year.  Mrs. Valerie Martin has moved to 1st grade; Ms. Shanan Mason has moved down to kindergarten; & Miss Janay Mose has moved to 2nd grade.  We are super excited for their new adventures!

Facilities Update! As you may have heard, there is a lot of construction happening in the district!  The new Collins, James Sales, & Harvard are in various stages of building and that means that we are getting closer!  As this year progresses we will be sure to keep you posted regarding the process and how you can be involved!  This will be such an exciting time and I can't wait to begin the journey to a new Brookdale!

Student Placement!A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2019-20 school year.

Careful consideration was given to student learning styles. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level.  Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities.

Thank you so much for being positive with your child and helping him or her understand that it is impossible to place all students with a preferred best friend or teacher. ALL of our staff works hard to make school a positive experience for ALL students. Thank you for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a child to acclimate to a new grade, peer group and teacher.

Thank you to all who are helping prepare for the new school year. Your commitment to insuring that Brookdale remains a celebrated and successful school is awe-inspiring. I eagerly look forward to greeting students and families again. It remains an honor and privilege to serve as your principal.  Please stop by and say hello. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all children.
