Another school year has begun! I hope you had a wonderful summer, filled with lots of family activities! Every beginning of a school year brings me back to the reasons why I chose a career in education – hope, excitement, and new beginnings.
Hope – There is always a sense of hope surrounding the beginning of a new school year. Students may hope for a certain teacher and that they are in the same class as their friends. Staff have spent countless hours in trainings and preparing their classrooms in anticipation of inspiring hope in their students. The Brookdale staff is committed to working with students and their families to ensure that the school year is a success.
Excitement – Everyone is excited to get the year started, to get back into the routine. It is so very important that families make on-time attendance a priority from the very beginning of the school year. Did you know that missing 5% or 10 days – just 1 day a month – in a year can put a student at serious risk of being academically behind? Parents & families are essential partners in promoting good attendance.
New beginnings – Some of the most important work happens at home – including; making sure your child gets a good night’s rest, talking with him/her about the day’s activities, checking backpacks for important information, providing quiet time and a place for homework, communicating with your child’s teacher on a regular basis, and reading to/or with your child. Each of these activities will have a positive effect on your child’s success!
We have a number of special events planned for this school year. The students will be working hard on projects/performances to share with friends and family and we look forward to you joining us in celebrating their accomplishments!
Volunteers are a big part of Brookdale! As a precaution, all volunteers must be cleared in order to participate in events during the school day (ie: field trips, school lunches, class celebrations.) Please be sure to complete the online application for any family, friend or relative that would like to volunteer. You will find the application under For Parents tab on the district website. Each volunteer application is valid for the current school year only. Please contact Jen Van, volunteer coordinator, with questions.
I encourage everyone to join Brookdale’s PTA! The PTA works hard throughout the year supporting classrooms and activities. We have a new and exciting PTA Board with lots of ideas – they just need your help to get them off the ground. It doesn’t take much to join PTA, but it means so much to our students!
Thank you so much for being a part of the Brookdale community! We look forward to working with you this coming school year!
